It’s fascinating to read some of the studies they’ve done on how omega 3 fatty acids affect the body, and how important they are to things like brain and heart function.  It’s interesting to note that they also greatly benefit most organs, including your skin, which is a bonus if you are not only health conscious, but also conscious of the continuing beauty and youthful appearance of your skin. I know I myself am a little of both, I’m extremely health conscious, especially the older I get and the more I realize how you can almost totally control aspects of your health through your diet and your lifestyle choices. Omega 3 dietary supplements are one of the ones I can’t live without.

The few times I’ve gone off of them or simply run out and been too  lazy to buy more, or just was strapped for cash to buy a good supplement (I don’t believe the really cheap ones are as good, so I do buy a higher quality omega 3 supplement myself), I do notice that my health, concentration and my overall well being seems to be impaired by it’s absence. And the problem with my diet is that although I try to eat enough fish, almonds and flax seed and other omega rich foods in a week, I many times simply can’t get them all in my diet, and I really do need that extra added bump up in my fats with a supplement, so it’s perfect to get them that way.

I read the most interesting story about a little girl, and infant, who was having trouble starting to learn to speak. She would get so frustrated at not being able to force out the words that were right there on her tongue that she would throw multiple tantrums a day.  Well, her grandmother told her mother that she read about the importance of omega 3 fats in cognitive development and brain function, so the child’s mother bought her an infant’s formula omega 3 supplement.

Now, I’m not sure how exaggerated this story is mind you, but apparently the child started speaking within one week of getting the supplementation! This is just one example. Many people take omega 3 fats to make sure their heart is protected.  You see, omega 3 fatty acids are much more special and much more needed than omega 6 fats, which are seed derived rather than plant derived, and are much more plentiful in today’s processed food diets.

Omega 3’s actually aid blood flow, and that is why they are recommended for anyone concerned with their heart or even stroke risk.  Not only that, omega 3’s are excellent for the protection and function of the brain.  They are found in high concentrations in the brain, and are thought to protect brain cells against damage, so they may even aid your brain when it comes to aging and forgetfulness.

All in all, if there is one supplement that everyone should add to their diet, it should be an omega 3 one, and a high quality one at that.  It also aids in mood scientists think, as it has even helped prison populations cut down on aggression.  It’s really an amazing nutrient that we all need in our diet in abundance.
