First off, let me preface this with the declaration that I’m really not so sure that chemotherapy is the answer to cancer treatment.  I still believe that there are better, nontoxic ways to treat cancer. However, that being said, I have never had cancer and cannot say what I would do when push came to shove if my life was on the line.

One of the scariest things to people about chemotherapy is the fact that most chemo patients do end up losing a good bit of their hair. Their crowning glory! So, as if to add insult to injury, cancer patients not only have to endure pain and illness due to chemo, but their pride also takes a huge blow when they begin to lose their hair.

Losing hair from chemo can be particularly devastating for a woman.  Not to downplay how devastating it is for a man, but you see bald men out there, and rarely ever see bald women as a fashion statement. Most women actually end up either wearing wigs of scarves, which offers just another awkward conversation with people explaining why.

Well, there is a newer device out that is a cooling cap. The cooling cap is warn for a while before and after chemotherapy treatments. It is supposed to make the hair follicles very cold, so that they constrict, and therefore they end up absorbing much less of the toxic chemo medicine.

Because they don’t absorb it as much, the hairs are spared falling out and may remain on the head. Losing hair becomes much less of a collateral damage side effect of chemo.

Now, just the fact that we use something so potent that contact with the hair follicles makes the hair fall out, to treat another toxic disease, where the cells turn against one another, is just plain scary to me.

Does it not seem counter intuitive to kill both healthy and unhealthy cells with a treatment that is designed to make people better?  This is why I find chemo so scary. It seems to be the very thing that kills cancer patients, and many times much faster than the cancer itself. I have had three family members that have battled cancer.

All three had extensive chemo. All three died. I’m not really sure that’s a great success story…..

SIDS, or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, the tragic syndrome where very young infants die unexpectedly, usually while sleeping in their cribs, is an awful thing for any parent to have to go through.  There have been a few theories on how SIDS occurs, and one of the strongest ones is that babies have not been put to bed on their backs.

This is thought to reduce the likelihood of SIDS because when the baby is not in their stomach, they are able to breathe more freely.  Conversely, when a child is placed on their belly to sleep, they may have obstructed breathing which can lead to their death during the night.

The new correlation with SIDS was that the occurrence on this deadly syndrome shows a 33% increase on New Years day. That’s quite a difference to ignore. The theory is that this is because parents may have been drinking or partying the night before, and they may have not put the baby to bed the proper way, which is on the back.

But that’s really just a theory at this point.  Another one is that parents who do bed-sharing with their young infants may accidentally smother their children while sleeping. Ugh, scary stuff. Actually, it’s so scary that I’m gonna cut this one short.

Parents, if you’re gonna go out drinking this New Year’s Eve, make sure someone who will not be impaired at all will be watching your youngsters!  Happy and safe new year everyone…

Well, here it is the day after Christmas, hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!  I thought we would talk about something that is a very hot subject for many women, and increasingly more men as well. It’s about keeping your skin looking fabulous well into advanced ages.

When it comes to naturally looking your best and most beautiful as you age, there really is no better way than the natural one.  This means no knives, scalpels or injections – just holding up the skin and bone and facial structure you have as best as you possibly can as gravity takes it’s hold over the years.

Sadly, many beautiful women have butchered their faces in hopes of holding on to their youthful looks and eliminating wrinkles.

They only end up looking oddly misproportioned, unnatural, and somehow, not natural – and not in a good way.

Most of these women who are addicted to plastic surgery really end up looking borderline freakish because surgery takes what you have and adulterates it, putting it out of proportion and making it look odd and alien.

It sounds mean, but it’s true, and women who only use natural anti aging creams and products usually end up looking so much more beautiful in to their later years.  I’ve women who go well into their seventies and eighties only using natural wrinkle creams and other natural means of anti aging and look fantastic – and real.

There are peels that you can do at home, natural fruit acids that help keep the skin cells fresh and the face lifted, and natural facial exercises that help to keep everything where it is instead of sagging.

They can prevent things like “turkey neck” and other facial sags over the years, and they look great because they are all YOU and they don’t change anything about the underlying structure of your face like facelifts do – and they often fail miserably at making you look better.

Some of my favorite natural anti aging creams contain high potency vitamins, minerals and nutrients that deposit deeply into the skin.  I put many layers of these creams on at night, because keeping the skin hyper hydrated is one of the biggest secrets to anti aging success.
