Alternative and complementary medicine (abbreviated as CAM) make up a group of practices and remedies otherwise seen as unconventional in the medical world.
They may be deemed unconventional for several reasons. It’s important to understand why. Typical medical procedure involves the administering of drugs, or prescribed medication. This is seen as the standard, while various “DIY” solutions on the market are treated as alternatives.
Alternative treatment is a replacement for conventional therapy, but it doesn’t have to act on its own accord. In situations where a patient is using alternative treatments - such as herbal remedies - alongside standard medical practice, we say that they’re using CAM, or Complementary Alternative Medicine.
The main advantage of complementary medicine is that it’s doubling the effectiveness of the treatment. If a doctor prescribes you drugs to treat an issue related to nutrient deficiency, you can settle with the drugs and sit back.
On the other hand, you can use a complementary treatment - in this case, herbal supplements, for example - to boost the effect of the drugs and increase your chances of a swift recovery to full health.
There are also numerous stand alone herbal medicines, such as herbal remedies for depression and anxiety, herbal colon cleansing for colon and digestive health restoration, herbal remedies for hair loss, hgh herbal supplements for youth and vitality, herbal skin care, and something for just about everything in the world of self improvement and health enhancement or correction.
Complementary therapy encompasses a huge selection of treatments, and some of them are more effective than others. If you’re recovering from surgery, and you take a course of aromatherapy to ease the aches and pains, the advantages are obvious. Yoga is another physical example of healthy practice that can work well alongside conventional treatment.
Don’t fall under the illusion that every CAM treatment is safe. Many are adopted and later moulded for use by professional doctors. Why the wait, you say? It can take a little while for an alternative treatment to be deemed efficient enough in professional usage. The fact that natural is natural doesn’t go to rule out the chance that you might suffer some side effects if you simply pick at random off the counter.
Always do your research before buying in to an alternative therapy - especially if it involves purchasing an independent product. Check the ingredients and the potency on all medication, and stick to the most reputable sources for your regimes.
Many dietary treatments supplied over the counter are great complementary boosters for your health. Herbal remedies exist for a reason, and the reason is that many of them work. That said; watch out for low market products. Several so-called treatment products make a dime through blending minimal quantities of the effective herbs with a lot of stuff that has no effect whatsoever!
Complementary and alternative medication isn’t something that should seem outrageous to you. The truth being, many alternative practices involve basic concepts that we’d all do well to adopt - whether we’re healthy or not! Sensible eating, regular exercise and looking after our bodies can go a long way to the cancellation of that doctor’s prescription.
