You may have heard of the chemical called Triclosan before. It is a common ingredient that is used in all these “antibacterial” soaps and products that kills topical bacteria. It’s become a prime ingredient in many of these types of products, and it has long been suspected of being toxic to the body.
After reading about it’s possible dangers a couple years ago when these types of antibacterial products became really popular, I decided myselfl to pretty much just avoid these types of soaps and products. However, it’s hard to do when you’re in cold season and you want to make sure your hands are clean.
A nonprofit group is actually suing the FDA or failing to prevent products like these from reaching market. It claims that triclosan and another common antibacterial agent called triclocarban actually damage sperm quality and the hormones that are produced by the sexual organs and the thyroid.
The group charges the FDA with delaying the conditions for safe use being established for this chemical, and says that it resulted in needless and abundant exposure to the potentially dangerous chemical, although the FDA remains steadfast in it’s position that it is safe as used today.
Hmm, I think I might read my soap labels once again to make sure they do not contain this ingredient, if there is even a question about it, I probably won’t use it. I wonder how much good it does in actually preventing sickness anyways. I bet regular soap and water protects you just fine….
