Do NOT Smoke Incense!
I remember when I was in college, which now seems like so many years ago. Eons, really. But it was only a little more than a decade ago! Hard to believe. I really did have some of the best times of my life in college. I grew up as a very shy and quiet person in high school, so I didn’t really enjoy it.
I blossomed when I went to college. Sure, I dabbled in some drugs and drank a lot like a lot of other college students do when they are truly able to leave home and blossom into their own beings. But I grew out of that, and I know this is controversial, but I wouldn’t trade the experiences, including the experimentation, that I had in college, for the world.
They made me who I am today. One of the things I remember very clearly, which was brougth back by an article I just read, was constantly burning incense in our tiny little apartment in Kent, Ohio. Oh, I went to Kent State University by the way.
Me and my room mate had tie die blankets, and all the cool hippy accessories in our apartment. We really thought it was the bomb, although to look back at pictures of it, the place was pretty dumpy
One of the staples we had around were various types of incense sticks, which we faithfully burned almost every night in our little incense burner. When I think of all the lung damage we did to ourselves, between that, smoking cigarettes, and other things, it’s amazing that we could breathe!
The article I just read was about three people being hospitalized after they all smoked incense. Yep, that’s right – they smoked incense! Incense is bad enough to inhale from a distance when you burn it at home, but it’s quite another to actually inhale the searing smoke (which is not meant to be directly inhaled) into your lungs!
The three young people actually had a really terrible reaction to the incense they smoked, which was called Atomic Bomb. One man was convulsing, one woman could not move her body, and the other had serious complaints as well.
Hopefully this is a cautionary tale. Do not ever smoke incense! In fact, I don’t even recommend you burn it in your home, especially not in enclosed spaces. It can cause lung damage sort of like smoking cigarettes can, and it pollutes the air.
