Grotesque Cigarette Labels Make You Wanna Quit?
Filed under Smoking CessationJul 14The grotesque ads and warning labels that are now on cigarettes, as forced by the FDA since there are a variety of groups that are totally against cigarettes and want them basically outlawed in the US, are starting to wear down some of the die hard smokers out there who say they’ll never quit.
Apparently, the calls in to quit smoking lines have surged since the ads debuted with a little bit of derision over their graphic content. ‘
However, it does look like it’s making some headway in getting people to realize what a deadly habit smoking it, and what a detriment it is not only to the dying who have gotten deadly diseases from the vice, but to the living whose quality of lives are no doubt affected by the unhealthy habit.
Quitting smoking is a hard undertaking, especially for people who’ve been doing it much of their lives. However, it can definitely be done, and it can be done permanently, if you have the willpower and a serious desire for self improvement.
Herbal smoking cessation products can help you jump some of those hurdles when you come to them, such as the cravings, the crankiness, and the inevitable withdrawal symptoms like hunger.
Some of the labels on cigarettes now that I’ve seen include a man with a hole in his throat, assumingly due to smoking and throat cancer, a picture of healthy lungs, versus the blackened lungs of a smoker, a picture of a woman crying who is a second hand smoker that has gotten lung disease, one of a man who looks like he may be dead or dying hooked up to oxygen, and a number of other upsetting and emotionally stirring images.
They are on target with the message they want to deliver, and they certainly are appealing to one’s sense of emotion and guilt over smoking by showing others affected by your smoking, such as babies and second hand smokers, and families.
They even appeal to vanity by showing a smoker’s blackened teeth, and worn away lips and gums. There is another with a man who is sutured from his mid belly up to his chin, who is clearly dead from some smoking related disease.
Smoking is definitely linked to lung disease and cancer, heart attack and stroke, and since those are the biggest killers in the US today, it’s not hard to convince people that smoking kills people.
