Is Disconnecting the Answer to Relaxing?
In these turbulent times of economic difficulties and the holidays entering the picture with all of its financial and family pressures, it’s no wonder that Americans are stressed to the max. My husband and I were out shopping (which I incidentally hate doing this time of year) and I saw the worst of people.
People were stressed, spouses were glaring at eachother, and kids were running rampant in the stores, only to hear from their grouchy, tired parents to shape up. Driving was a nightmare. People were cutting us off, stopping where they shouldn’t have, and generally being rude.
So why, during this time of giving, love and peace, are people more stressed than ever? It’s simple. We live in a world of almost constant connectivity. We are always connected to our phones, the internet, and other various devices that really never allow us to truly “get away from it all”.
If we can just disconnect for a while, we would probably instantly relax. It’s easier said than done though, and I’m probably being a hypocrite to even suggest it since I am forever glancing at my iPhone to check and see what new emails I’ve gotten or what the latest stock prices are, or what the weather forecast is for next week.
With all the conveniences technology has added to our lives to make it easier, it sure does seem to have increased our levels of stress from years past. If you can just take the challenge and try completely disconnecting from the world for a day, you would see the difference. It’s a vacation from technology, and it can really do wonders for your anxiety levels.
