It seems that everyone is looking for the proverbial “fountain of youth” and answers to longevity these days.
I think that we figure if we could have come this far in terms of computer and health technology, why can we not yet unlock the answers to longer life?
Well, there have always been certain herbs, vitamins and minerals that we can take to supplement our diet that will help us to live longer.
But these longevity herbs are just the start in helping extend your relase of HGH, or Human Growth Hormone, which is often referred to as the “hormone of youth” and to extend your cell’s lifespans and health in other ways.
It is my opinion and that of many other scientists and researchers that it’s more important to get these nutrients in your diet than it is to pop pills. To see our review of an HGH enhancing supplement see here GenF20 HGH releaser.
Supplements are just that – supplements, to a good diet and otherwise healthy lifestyle that does not include unhealthy habits like consuming a lot of alcohol, inactivity or smoking cigarettes or taking drugs.
And of course, if you were born after a certain date, you have time on your side and new advances in health care and nutritional information to your advantage. For example, did you know that most babies today are forecasted to live until they are one hundred years old and potentially beyond?
Reaching the centenarian stage of life used to be a rare occurrence, and yet here we are, witnessing more and more people passing their one hundredth birthdays and also foreseeing many babies that will live well into their octogenarian and centenarian stages of life, and quite healthfully too!
That’s the key part – healthfully. Who wants to live a long life if they are encumbered with disease or health issues that make living unpleasant and even a burden?
Taking the right herbs for longevity, as well as making sure you are getting the right compounds such as vitamins and other nutrients that are vital to the human biosystems, you can help to ensure that you will make it to old age smoothly and in the best physical and mental health possible.
Now, let’s get down to some of what I feel are the best herbs for the improvement of your longevity – in other words, which herbs are going to help you live longer?
1.) St. John’s Wort and Kava. The reason I have these first on my list is that one common thread amongst those that live long is that they are not big worriers.
Worrying and anxiety is one of the leading causes of health issues, including but not limited to heart disease, high blood pressure, cancers (even though this is of course fairly controversial, I personally believe that unresolved anxiety and emotions can contribute to cancer due to a triggering of hormone and chemical responses that occur), and emotional responses that literally sap the will to live from a person, which is a big deal when it comes to living a long time.
St. John’s Wort and kava kava have been able to do wonders for me when I’m stressed out. I don’ t take them all the time, but I do take them periodically, maybe with some chamomile tea, as a way to help soothe away stress and anxiety.
2.) Resveratrol. This is a fairly new substance that is included suddenly in several different supplements as it has received a lot of publicity for the company who brought it to light.
The substance is extracted from the skin of dark grapes, and the intriguing thing about it is that it has been shown to switch on a sort of longevity gene in lab mice that is usually only switched on by eating a diet that is unusually low in calories.
The lab that discovered this Resveratrol substance is hard at work to come up with a pill that is potent enough with the compound to actually increase people’s life span significantly. They have actually partnered with a major drug company (or I think they were actually bought out), so this means it’s pretty serious.
Until then, you can check out some of the other Resveratrol supplements on the market now.
3.) Green tea. Green tea is one of the best herbs for longevity because it contains several beneficial antioxidants that are powerful enough to help scour free radicals out of your system, which helps ensure your cells live longer, which means you live longer.
Green tea leaves contain something called L Theanine, which has been shown in studies to induce relaxation and stress reduction.
Not only that, green tea has a substance called polyphenols in it, which are another excellent free radical destroyer, and better yet, some studies show that pairing green tea with another powerful antioxidant, vitamin C, may help to increase it’s absorption rate.
This is like a two for one defense against aging of the body’s cells, and oh yeah, both of these substances give you great skin. Studies show that regular consumption of green tea (preferably always organic), can help fight strokes, heart disease, and even improve your gum and teeth health and decrease cancer risk.
In addition to these longevity herbs I’ve mentioned, here are some other herbs to look into that can definitely help you to live a longer, healthier life when taken with an otherwise healthy diet and lifestyle.
Melatonin – helps promote a healthy sleeping patter, relaxes the individual. Adequate sleep is a huge indicator of health, and also longevity, and those who get regular, full sleep are more likely to live longer. Studies have shown that adequate sleep is a major indicator of longevity.
Vitamin D – I understand this is not an herb per se, but this vitamin is vital to the prevention of a few different kinds of cancer, and has gradually been uncovered as a reason behind several diseases when it is not at adequate levels in the body. Well worth looking into whether you have a deficiency of this vitamin.
Omega 3 fats – This is also vital to health. It’s a major help in preventing heart disease, improving the health of the blood vessels, and a great supplement for the health of all connective tissues.
One of my favorites is to drink alkaline, ionized water. You really have to read more on this health benefit as I can’t put into words how powerful I believe this is for your health.
