Why Is It So Hard for Cancer Survivors to Quit Smoking?
Filed under Smoking CessationAug 4It is a well known fact that cigarette smoking dramatically increases your risks of several types of cancer. It’s easy for us all to take on the mentality that we are indestructable and the rules don’t apply to us. In fact, that is probably a big human weakness, not realizing that we are all truly more fragile than we think, and anything that happens to others can happen to us.
We tend to throw caution to the wind and think that if everything has been ok up until now, it will probably continue to be ok. Then, smokers get knocked off their horse when they are diagnosed with a cancer that may or may not be directly linked and attributed to their habit of smoking.
You see, smoking cigarettes not only affects your lungs and increases your risk of lung cancer, but it also increases risks of every other cancer out there. Smoking actually helps cancer cells thrive because it boosts the chances that more and more of your cells, regardless of which organ we are talking about here, become mutated.
Cancer is basically a cell mutation gone awry. We all have a certain amount of mutation that goes on in our body’s cells at any given time. It is when that mutation grows and thrives out of control and the cells rapidly divide over and over again, taking over the room and oxygen and resources for the healthy cells, that cancer quite literally eats us alive.
So why then, do people who have already experienced cancer, and who smoke, find it so hard still to give up the habit of smoking, even though they know they could either get cancer again, or worsen the cancer that is already killing them?
Well, it is because smoking is highly addictive, and the longer you’ve been smoking, the harder it is to quit smoking. Smoking cigarettes, and the nicotine rush that comes with it is a deadly addiction that is hard for even the most dedicated of us to over come.
But with help from things like herbal smoking cessation products, and the genuine desire and love for yourself to get better, you can kick it forever and change the story of your life. It’s all up to you.
